It’s the first day of a new blog, and I’m already behind!
I set this blog up to capture ideas, thoughts, and projects related to my emerging interest in design, and especially data visualization. This has become a new focus for me over the past few months, and I am curious to see where it leads.
Having kept a knitting blog for several years now, I understand how useful it is to have an electronic project notebook. A blog helps to keep me motivated and encourages connections to a broader community (I’ve met some of my closest friends through this here internet). It gives me a place to put ideas, post about process, and to look things up when I want to show a random family member a photo of what I’ve been working on.
Mostly, though, the process of blogging helps me comb through my ideas and put them in order. Writing is a great clarifier, and I can’t count how many times I’ve been stuck on a design decision, only to have the answer become clear by the time I finished the blog post.
Happily, I already have several projects simmering away on the back burner, so there is much to process and record.
With that, hello, and here’s to thinking out loud!
